The Truth About Stress Management

You should know that the feeling of being stressed out is nothing unusual for a college student. To begin with, it might be your first time away from home. You miss your parents, your brothers and sisters, your friends. You miss the comfort of the family dwelling, the commemoration of birthdays and other special events. You might even miss the extra-curricular activities you enjoyed at your high school
There is the stress of trying to do well in academically challenging college classes. You might feel overwhelmed by the amount of reading you have to do. You might not have developed strong study skills in high school, leading to greater stress at college. You may even find it difficult finding a place to study-especially if you’re not used to spending long periods of time in the library.
You might also be dealing with the stress of having to live with roommates for the first time. Your roommates might not share your values, your interests, or even your sleeping patterns. If you have more than one roommate, you might feel outnumbered. If you were an only child, you might not be used to the stress involved in sharing a bathroom or a common study area.
You could confront with the demands of your first proper relationship. Students may be faced with the doubts of whether they are committing themselves in a relationship too soon for their own good. Moreover, organizing time to be together could be very demanding as time is scarce, with a full class timetable.
You could be bogged down with the pressure of working part time to contribute to the exorbitant college fees. The long working shifts associated with such work often takes a toll on your sleeping hours. The difficulty of getting along with troublesome colleagues and demanding superiors contribute to even greater hassle.
Students have to be advised that they have to accept stress as part of college. Life in a new and demanding environment would be initially difficult and has to be overcome positively. All it requires are effective management of all aspects of college life to keep stress to a minimum.
To start of; Students could allocate a timetable to more effectively cater to priorities and strictly adhering to it. Adequate time to relax and exercise shall never be overlooked despite a hectic schedule. This allows our energies to be recharged and study effectively.
Students should never belittle the effect of weight gain on their stress levels. College is well known for weight gaining among students during the first year of classes. To keep unsightly bulges at bay, get rid of all unhealthy snacks and finger food. Adhere to a diet of meat with less fat, fish, fruits, vegetable and whole grains. It would be wise to eat little at parties and never misuse alcohol to avoid the pot belly. It requires some discipline to stay at a healthy weight in order to combat stress.
College will stay in one’s heart as a most significant chapter of becoming an adult. The knowledge obtained would be a tremendous boost to our career. Friends that are made here could last a lifetime. A life partner and new interests could be acquired at college. Despite this, College is filled to the brim with great demands. As a student, we have to deal with a great deal of people who are integral to our life in college. We shall have to take on responsibilities as a grown up would such as settling bills. Each day is a new challenge. It takes great adapting skills to handle our busy schedule effectively to keep stress to a minimum. All who graduated from college could consider themselves true survivors.
