Learning The Signs Of Menopause

By Bill Garth | October 1, 2009

We ladies have it tough, in some ways. It seems like we get all of the awful physical issues that men have been fortunate enough to escape. We go through periods, childbirth and menopause, just to name a few things. It’s all part of being a woman, so most of us wear these events like badges of courage. You may start seeing the signs of menopause before you were planning on it. Make sure you know what it looks like before it jumps on your back.

One of the first signs of menopause is typically that a woman’s periods become irregular. Generally this means that they stop coming every 28 days as they typically do throughout the course of a woman’s premenopausal life. Other symptoms will gradually begin, as well.

I definitely never would have thought that at 37, I’d be facing menopause. However, we have no control over what happens in our lives and with our bodies. The first sign of menopause is a change in the schedule of your period. Your monthly cycle will begin to swing from time to time. You may not have a period at all, some months. This, of course, depending on where you are in your map of life, may scare you and have you running for the EPT test.

You will also notice a change in your hormones. For many women, this means that they lose any and all interest in sex. For others, they can’t seem to get enough sexual activity. Either way, you’ll notice a difference, for sure. The flux of hormones can change a woman’s love life, all together.

Your skin may change and you may suddenly start getting acne or zits again, even if you haven’t had them in ages. You may witness the opposite effect, as well. If you’ve usually got issues with your skin, you may witness a clearing up of your face. This is usually a pretty welcome symptom, until your skin starts drying out. Then, it becomes an issue.

Other signs of menopause include mood swings; poor sleep quality, thirst, changes in appetite, hair loss, changes in nails and skin and much more. Hormone replacement therapy is a great way for women to ease into menopause. The hormones that are replaced will help fight off the signs of menopause but will not completely stop them. Consider discussing hormone replacement therapy when you begin seeing the signs of menopause, with your physician.
